Master Brazilian percussionist Jorge Alabê will be offering special drum and dance classes, directly from the barracão of his Candomble house in Rio de Janeiro, Ilê Axé Omorodé.

Jorge Alabê comes from the rich musical culture of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The title Alabê means master of the drums, songs, and dance within the practice of Candomble. He was initiated by Iya Nitinha de Oxum, from Ilê Axé Iyá Nassô Oká (known as Casa Branca), Salvador, Bahia. Jorge is an authority in Candomblé from his lifetime of experience and teaching in Brazil and the U.S.

He is also a recognized master of samba percussion, with long experience with samba schools in Brazil and the illustrious performing company Oba Oba, as well as his years of playing and teaching in the U.S.

Video recordings of the class sessions will be made available to all participants registered for each series.

The cost is $100 per series for each of the classes.

Don't miss this special opportunity to learn Orixa dance steps straight from the Candomble house in Brazil. Movements of various Orixas will be shown in their original form, led by Jorge Alabe and others who lead the Candomble house, accompanied by live rhythms on atabaque drums.
People with all levels of experience with the tradition can enjoy and learn from these unique classes.

Take this special opportunity to study Orixa rhythms with Jorge Alabe from his deep knowledge of the drums, songs, and rituals of Candomble, presented directly from his Candomble house in Rio de Janeiro. Parts for the agogo bell and lê, rumpi, and rum drums will be shown, presenting all the key Candomble rhythms, including Vassi, Aguere, Opanije, Aguere for Ossain, Ijexa, Savalu, Bravum, Aluja, Jica, Bata, Ilu, Ibi, and Avamunha.

Jorge Alabe is offering a series of intensive classes in all percussion instruments for pagode. Learn to play in the authentic style of Rio de Janeiro!
The class will include demonstration of technique and style on all the typical instruments for pagode de mesa—pandeiro, tantan, repique de mao, reco-reco, repique de anel, surdo.
Jorge will demonstrate technique and groove for each instrument, as well as variations an improvisation, and how to play with songs.
